The Foreign Office has issued a warning that there is no fuel at any of Cuba’s international airports. The FCDO has cautioned tourists and vacationers in the UK and released an urgent update on the situation in Cuba.
The Cuban government has declared that aviation fuel is not available at any of its international airports. On Thursday, March 5, the FCDO declared: “Cuba is experiencing severe and worsening disruption to essential infrastructure, persistent power outages across the country and fuel shortages.”
The Foreign Office also mentioned that some airlines, like Air France, have finished suspended flights until mid-June, while other flights are being rerouted to new transportation hubs.
“These conditions are significantly affecting the ability of visitors to access reliable transport, medical care, communications, and basic services,” the FCDO stated. “To conserve severely limited energy supplies, authorities have introduced fuel rationing, scaled back public services, and made temporary changes to healthcare, education, transport and tourism operations.”
Joséň International Airport’s Terminal 2, which handles flights to the United States and some charter flights, has been closed, and flights have been rerouted to Terminal 3.
LATAM and all Canadian airlines have halted flights to and from Cuba, while other airlines are examining their routes.
The last flight from Havana to Paris Charles de Gaulle is scheduled for March 28. Air France has announced that flights between Paris and Havana will be suspended from March 29 to June 14.
If things get worse, there may be fewer options for leaving the country.
It is possible for the situation to rapidly and unexpectedly worsen. Make sure you are prepared to swiftly alter your plans if necessary.
For the most recent information, look for messages from your airline or tour operator if you are thinking about leaving Cuba. Verify that you have any necessary visas for further travel and make sure your travel documents are still valid.
If you are in Cuba right now, carefully assess whether your presence is necessary. Be ready for major disruption and take precautions by conserving food, fuel, water, and cell phone batteries.
